The Plastic-Free Coastal Bangladesh Project (PFCBP) is a transformative environmental initiative designed to combat the growing threat of plastic pollution in Bangladesh's coastal regions. Implemented by Bangladesh Rehabilitation and Development Organization (BRDO), the project seeks to protect marine ecosystems, improve community health, promote sustainable livelihoods, and encourage responsible environmental behavior through large-scale public engagement and action.

Bangladesh's coastal areas, particularly Chattogram, Feni, and Cox's Bazar, are increasingly affected by plastic waste that pollutes beaches, rivers, canals, and marine habitats. Plastic pollution not only threatens biodiversity and fisheries but also undermines tourism, public health, and local economies. Recognizing the urgency of this challenge, PFCBP aims to create long-term environmental change through awareness, education, community participation, and sustainable waste management solutions.

The project will engage communities, educational institutions, youth groups, local government authorities, tourism stakeholders, and environmental advocates in a collective effort to reduce the use of single-use plastics and promote environmentally friendly alternatives.

Expected Impact

Through a comprehensive three-year implementation period, the project aims to:
Reach more than 500,000 people through environmental awareness campaigns
Establish 100 educational institutions as certified Plastic-Free Zones
Collect and recycle at least 300 tons of plastic waste
Increase the adoption of eco-friendly alternatives in target communities
Strengthen environmental leadership and stewardship among young people
Improve waste management practices in coastal areas
Contribute to cleaner beaches, rivers, and marine ecosystems
